When Your Perfectionism Pops Up Literally Everywhere

Dart hitting a bullseye

The big problem with perfectionism and self-pressure is that it can sneak into everything you’re doing. EVERYTHING. And the only antidote is a profoundly trusting relationship with your inner wisdom.

For example, have you ever pressured yourself to do a better job relaxing on your day off?

Or to meditate better?

Or to be better at manifesting?

Yeah, me too.

For heaven’s sake, I trained as a concert violinist, so I basically can’t do anything in my life without nitpicking it to pieces to see where I can improve. (Violin is like the hell of perfectionism.)

Just this morning, I went to lie down for ten minutes before working in my business (a very important part of not being driven by pressure!) and realized I’d moved my pillow to another room. I spent thirty seconds pressuring myself to get up and get my pillow before I caught myself!

No pillow needed right now. Just freaking rest, for crying out loud! Lol.

It’s horrifying and hilarious all at once.

The worst part of self-pressure and perfectionism is that it can cause or exacerbate physical pain and illness. It can take societal pressure and turn up twenty-six notches to a deafening level.

When my daughter was in kindergarten and was going through a mac and cheese only phase, I had a conversation with a fellow mom after school. She was explaining that her son hadn’t finished his home-whipped hummus and baba ganoush from lunch so she was hanging out while he snacked.

Did she say anything to me, like, YOU TERRIBLE MOTHER, YOU FED YOUR KID MAC AND CHEESE TWICE THIS WEEK? WHY AREN’T YOU TEACHING YOUR KID TO EAT ORGANIC HOMEMADE MULTICOLORED FROM THE GARDEN FARM TO TABLE FRESHLY SQUEEZED EVERYTHING?

No.

But boy did I hear that. In my own head.

Not only is this annoying, but it really f*cks with one’s sense of self. It also makes every moment exhausting.

The key, my friends, is not to stop thinking like this. (It’s gonna happen.)

The key is to stop believing this non-stop self-pressure radio station in your head. There’s a better radio station, and it’s the Inner Wisdom station.

Tune into that instead.

It helps if you can notice that you’re tuned into the Self-Pressure Station first, because then it will be easier to turn that dial over the Inner Wisdom 98.1.

Once you’re noticing that you’re hooked on the wrong story in your head, you can purposefully discredit it and ask your inner wisdom for guidance.

Here’s the weird part. Sometimes, your self-pressure story in your head is trying to tell you something positive, but it’s like it has a 24/7 nasty filter on so you only hear the crap version.

Remove that filter and you might find there’s helpful guidance! Usually, the easiest way to do this is simply to ask your Inner Wisdom, since she’s not an a*hole.

Also, I am totally up for helping you with this because IT IS MY PASSION! 😉 With my Mind-Body Magic Life Coach Training Program, I can totally help you shift out of the mental habits that make your body feel exhausted and sometimes even sick, your spirit feel oppressed, and your mind stressed. Then you can also use my methods with your clients!

This will totally fix any manifesting struggles you’re having with attracting clients, BTW. You’ll have so much clarity in your messaging and you’ll be so aligned with what you want to attract that it will feel like magic.
